Associate Professor Harsh Kanhere
(MS, FRACS)
Harsh Kanhere is the Head of Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) and a senior consultant Surgeon in the Upper GI and Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
He is affiliated to the University of Adelaide, Medical School as an Associate Professor. He has a Masters in Clinical trials and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.
After completing his General Surgery training in India in 1999, Harsh pursued sub-speciality training in Cancer Surgery for 4 years with special interest in Oesophago-Gastric, Hepato biliary and Pancreatic cancers. Following this he was awarded a scholarship to visit the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York USA to further his knowledge in Thoracic and Oesophageal Cancer management.
He migrated to Australia in 2004 and undertook further training in Upper GI, HPB and Bariatric Surgery initially at Flinders Medical Centre and then at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for another 3 years. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery (FRACS) in 2007 and was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
In 2018 Dr. Kanhere was appointed as the Head of unit for Upper GI surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Dr. Kanhere pioneered establishment of a multidisciplinary Bariatric Surgery pathway at the Queen Elizabth Hospital . He has significant experience in performing complex Upper GI and HPB surgery.
